today's ramblings

For some reason, this post is going to mostly be about food. :) Obviously a little someone is affecting me in big ways.

Yesterday my husband suggested that I go buy all the necessary things to make broccoli and cheese soup for dinner. I go get it and he'll make it. DEAL! Little did he know that while I was in Waco over the weekend I mentioned really wanting some. Ahhh, the key to my heart. So anyways, I went and bought the stuff and he made it while I cleaned up after him. Such team work! It works out well that way because in the end there is hardly a mess. I like it like that. It was SOOO delicious and I think I might have a bowl for breakfast. Ahhhh.

I love the soup SO much that I'll share the website with you so you can give it a go yourself. Broccoli and Cheese Soup Seriously, it's so delicious and fairly easy! Just make sure you get everything ready and measured out before hand and you'll fly through it. Oh and instead of buying a "bunch" of broccoli you can buy a Steamers bag of chopped broccoli from Wal-Mart. :-) We're all about what's easiest around here.

This morning before AK woke up I decided to make a smoothie. My MIL has been on my tail about making them because they're "sooo good for you" and I just haven't been interested. I kept thinking it would be a pain in the butt. To my delight, it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be and it was even yummier than I expected. Wal-Mart has these great value brand resealable bags of frozen fruit in almost anything you could want. I bought peaches, red raspberries and blueberries. YUM. So this morning, I tossed me some peaches in the blender, poured some apple juice to the top of the fruit and blended away. I was a little nervous about how this would taste because I'm not much of a peaches kinda gal but I thought it sounded good yesterday at the store. AND, IT WAS GOOD. Oh-so-yummy! I'll definitely be making this an every morning deal...or almost every morning...or when I feel like it ;). Tomorrow I think I'll experiment with strawberries and banana. YUM!

On another-not-food-related-note, I'm approximately 8 weeks prego now. I go to the doctor here in the next week or two so we'll know something more definite then. I have been mega blessed not to experience morning sickness with either of my babies. The only plague I've been struck with is something I like to call pregxhaustion. It's in a whole different category than just plain 'ole exhaustion. It's an exhaustion you just can't understand until you've had it. You hear me ladies?! Other than that, all seems to be sailing along rather smoothly.

AK is doing well. She's talking a lot and makes mommy and daddy laugh all the time. We can't get enough of her. She's amazing. I can't imagine what it's going to be like to feel this way about two little people. It has to be incredible.

Well, that's all I really have for now. I'll post some pictures eventually :)

Momma's brilliant one

My kid has been amazing me lately. She pretty much amazes me everyday because she's so darn fun and smart. I love the combo. I love that she has such a fun and spunky personality and that she can be intelligent too. I'm saying all this because she's been learning her ABC's lately. Not the ABC song, or them even in order, but she knows her letters. She does know ABCD but that's as far as the order goes.

The other night when we were putting her to bed we were spelling her name, like we do everynight, and Sean started out with, "Aaayyyeee" and she said, "beeeee, ceeeee"! It was so darn funny, cute and awesome all at the same time!

I usually wear shirts that have words on them. Don't ask why, I just have a lot of them. Like mission trip shirts and such. Well, she is constantly pointing out the letters and telling me what they are. She had been calling a Q an O for a long time and then one day out of know where she points to a Q on my shirt and says, "cuuuuue". I almost did a flip right there wherever I was at the moment (I don't exactly remember).

And today, she was doing this letter puzzle thing and she picked up a D and goes, "dee".

Now these stories are just examples of the things I can actually remember but she knows a good amount of the letters. I haven't heard her say F,G, H, J, K, L, M, N, X, or Z yet but I think I've heard her say all the others. It's so amazing the amount of information their brains can obtain at this age. She's not even two! Ah, mommy's little genius!

Apart from being an ABC prodigy to her momma, she's been signing please for everything! We went through a stubborn phase where she absolutely refused to sign please, all done or more! She knew how but wouldn't do it. Even though she knew please would get her what she wants, she'd look at us and walk off. I told you, she's stubborn. But lately she's been saying and signing please for everything! I think she figured out momma has a hard time saying no when she's being so polite and doing as she knows she should. Depending on what she's "pleasing" about, which it's usually food of some sort or a drink, she gets a taste no matter what it is. If it's too much sugar she gets only one. So anyways, yeah, I'm glad she's figuring it all out!

I love her.

time for some catch up

We've been in and out for days now. On Wednesday afternoon Sean's dad, stepmom, little brother and two little sisters came to stay with us for a couple of nights. It was SO fun to get to see them since we haven't seen them since our wedding, just about three years ago. They live in Tennessee and haven't been able to make it down this way, not even to meet their granddaughter and niece! Well, his dad has made it about two or three times since she's been born but only for a day at a time or so. So that was super fun for them all to finally meet her!

On Friday we met a bunch of family in North Austin for dinner.

On Saturday we drove to North Austin again to go to Sean's uncle and aunt's house. Sean's dad, uncle and two of their friends used to be in a band together back in the day so they had a band reunion/concert in the backyard. It was fun and hot and I'm glad it was only for one evening ;).

Sunday morning we left for Victoria where we stayed until Monday evening. We had a family reunion. It's amazing the amount of people that can start from just one man and one woman. It was lots of fun, BUT super hot because the AC wasn't working right and we were all sweating our butts off.

The drive to Victoria was quite longer than I originally thought. It turned out to be about a three hour drive. Now picture this: the hubby, AK in her big butt of a carseat and me in a Ford Ranger. Continue picturing the carseat so strategically placed in the center of the truck, rear-facing, and taking up most of the room we have. Also picture me sitting on basically half a seat, the seat belt buckle UNDER my butt/leg to keep it from smashing into my hip and slanting the carseat and my legs and back stiff with pain. Yeah, that was the trip, both ways! We commute like this all the time but never on three hour trips so that SUCKED! I'm pretty sure it's time for a bigger car. I don't think another carseat is going to fit. ;-)

Speaking of another carseat, this pregnancy is going well...besides being exhausted ALL THE TIME and moody parts of the time. It doesn't help all that much when you have a toddler following you around the house whining all day. Yeah, she's finally hit that stage and it's making mommy crazy. I'm about to up the anty on what attitude I expect to get from her. This terrible two teeth grinding fussiness just isn't cutting it right now. Where's the spoon??

If you think about it, please pray for provision for our family. Here's a few hints, my hubby HAS to find another job, a house and a new car within the next 7 months. BIG stuff going on around here.

Thanks.

today we...

...had fun.

This post contains quite a few pictures. You have been forewarned.

I just had to show you the outfit AK wore today. She looked oh-so-cute!!! And I love the colors. The "shirt" is actually a 6-9 month dress I got at Wal-Mart for $3.00! I just had to have it. Thanks mom!

Her hair is finally long enough for one pony. I love it!!! Of course, I had to add a bow in there to keep some strays back but other than that the hair-do was a success.

After looking mega cute and taking a trip to the post office and H-E-B to shop for the upcoming arrival of some family we had fun playing outside in her "house". But this was AFTER I locked us out of the house when I was unloading groceries. I was so mad at myself. Good thing Daddy was in bed sleeping and we could wake him up...but that was BEFORE I realized the back door was unlocked, which it NEVER is! Sorry honey!

So here's AK chilling out in her "house" enjoying a cup of juice. Of course, she found it entertaining to lean forward and place and retrieve her cup on the little corner shelf over and over again.

How cute is that!

THEN later on after a nap, dinner and bath we played outside some more. We had fun passing the plate back and forth through the mail slot. She found that highly entertaining...and I thought it'd make a cute pic.

After all that, she put her fingers in her ears to experiment with hearing (and not hearing) the birds chirp. This is her new thing. When hubby and I are talking and she's in between us, like say in the car, she'll put her fingers in and out of her ears just listening to the difference. It's so fun to watch her learning and "exploring".

THEN, she proceeded to crack me up with THIS face!

Oh my, what a funny kid I have! She's hilarious. She's been doing this lately in the house while she walks around with her eyes closed. I guess she's trying to see how far she can go before she runs into something.

So that was my day with my cute, inspiring, wonderful, absolutely breathtaking kid!

school house pool fun

Today Mommy brought home a surprise for AK. Her very own little school house. It was hanging out at her Grandma's house and wasn't getting put to good use so I took it upon myself to relieve her of the burden :).

She was watching me put it together from the window and was freaking out with excitement. It was fun to see her so happy!!! She loves it! And I love that she loves it AND that we have something else to entertain her wonderful mind!

Located to the left of her school house is her swimming pool so we made an afternoon out of it and went "buck" wild. BAHAHA!

And I love the pics I got of her. Classic.

That was our Sunday afternoon.

Hi-C goodness

Today I took AK to McDonald's ((surprise surprise)) where she had her first taste of Hi-C, more than half diluted with water, but it's all the same right?! She loved it! She didn't get much but what she got she thoroughly enjoyed!

I think it's official that she's gotten bored with the play area there which is oh-so-sad for me because it's my fall back when it's too hot outside. Guess we'll have to find another fun and cheap place to play that has AC!

^^^here she is playing with "wet floor" sign. told you she's getting bored^^^

^^^running to momma. CUUUTE outfit huh?! ;)^^^

^^^waiting patiently for a drink while mommy snaps a pic^^^

^^^enjoying the Hi-C goodness^^^

^^^Mmmm, she liked that!^^^

Now blogger friends, stay posted, I have an important post coming in one week!...weelll, one week and one day. It'll probably be up next Thursday! :-)

poor poor pitiful me

Is this picture not HILARIOUS!!! We were across the street in the school yard trying to fly a kite and she just sat down. Soooo, I decided that since she was actually being still for once I'd try to capture a picture....This is what we get for trying to make our daughter's life fun. :) LOL

free to roam=firetruck rescue

You are about to witness what happens when a toddler is free to roam in the vehicle without adult supervision.

Sorry about the poor quality, it was taken from my hubby's cell phone.

Now, the story. Hubby took AK with him to rent a movie from Redbox. Apparently there was a line so he took her out of her carseat while they waited on the line to go down.

Take note that during this time she kept getting reprimanded for aggressively yanking on the rearview mirror.

So the line dwindles and hubby pulls up next to the curb, crooked as he says, and proceeds to get his movie. He selects "online pick up", swipes his card and turns to watch our precious 21 month old laughingly push the lock down with her cute little hands. He apparently called me, I didn't answer, so his only option was to call 9-1-1. He tells them that his daughter has just locked herself in the car with the keys in the ignition and the vehicle is running...so that was good, she had AC. They ask him if she is in any distress.

Now, let me paint you a picture of distress.

She is playing with the rearview mirror and daddy hits the window and tells her "NO!". She listens at first but then proceeds to do it again, this time violently yanking the mirror from side to side. He again hits the window and tells her "NO!" and she LAUGHS AT HIM!!! Yes, our daughter laughed while she continued to hang from the rearview mirror. Good one.

So, distress, he tells them she is not in distress. They send a MASSIVE fire truck to open the door. Not one of those little fire truck dept. vehicles, an actual firetruck! How hilarious! AND even more funny, he was parked all cockeyed next to the curb. Whew, I'm glad he didn't get a ticket.

THAT, folks, was our Saturday afternoon.

Oh, I forgot to mention that since they were only going to Redbox and she would not be entering public that I sent her out in a tank top and diaper! It's all just so funny.

THE video-flips

Here you go, I took the time to do it because it's so funny! Excuse my annoying voice. I have a scratch in my throat and a runny nose or something...only for the duration of the video...which I find weird. ANYWAYS, here you are.

ms. sassy pants

So today AK has been in a especially wild and funky mood. Not in a bad way, but a hilarious one. I'm tellin ya, discipline helps curb a testy and bad kid ;).

We went to McDonald's this morning where she had a blast playing with some older kids. She just loves them.

She learned how to flip...off the side of her pool...that is full of balls. She leans over the side, whether inside or outside, until her head reaches the bottom (or floor) and then uses the side of the pool to boost herself over into a flip. It's so hilarious and I DID get it on video but blogger takes a full day to upload my videos for some reason so I'm not sure you'll ever get the privilege of watching my kid in action ;).

She was playing with an empty pitcher and was pretending to drink out of it with this big "aahhhh" after she was done with "drinking" and she would say "teea". I don't even know how she knows about tea because we don't drink it. So that was pretty funny.

She also went nuts and started throwing balls at her Daddy and I. Between the three of us it was looking like a ball war.

From there she proceeded to climb onto her bed and throw everything off! I'm telling you, she was wild today!

At the grocery store she had everyone talking to us as she offered her "luuuuuhveeee" to all those interested. I'm not sure why she would even think such a thing because she'd surely be upset about it later...saaay bedtime.

At one point, she came to me with my headband on. She pulled her flower clippie out and tossed it to the floor and tried her best to put on a headband. I thought it was so adorable because one, I love that she knows where a headband goes and two, I like that she wanted to wear it. So sweet.

I like that she's a mix between wild child and girly girl. Never a dull moment. Here are pictures of the events from today.

I love my girl.

today's projects

They're up and ready for purchase here.

hesitant "from the heart" post

I am hesitant to blog about this because I don't want people to get the wrong impression but I know there are some out there who believe what I believe in this area of parenting and I really have the urge to share about how it improves and brings great love in my relationship with my daughter.

We believe in spankings. When our daughter knew and understood the two words "no ma'am" it began there. Obviously the correction and discipline was appropriate for the age. She wasn't getting full blown spankings at 8 months, just little taps to the hand. It has progressed into more than that considering she's on the heels of turning two. TWO!

I have always believed in correction and discipline seeing as how when I was little, I never really got it. It has made for a hard hard time in my adult years. I find it hard to be consistent and disciplined myself, I don't finish things I start and it's just flat out hard at times. I don't want my child(ren) to go through that. I want her (them) to be well-balanced with good self-discipline skills and self-control. All those things I want for her is another reason I have chosen to forsake the "high" life to stay home with my little monkey. I want her to be secure in who she is, confident and stable. Not that children who are in childcare of sorts have problems with that, but I know it has totally changed and shaped my daughter's personality by getting to be home with Mommy.

All that to say, I have been really lacking in being consistent with discipline lately. Shocker! I have let her look at my with those sweet eyes and get away with quite a bit because I don't want to hurt her sweet little pride. BUT, by doing that, I have noticed that she has been quite the terror lately. She doesn't listen to me on first command, she's been testy and flat out disobedient which has all made for some rough days emotionally for me because "I JUST WANT HER TO LISTEN"! Well, she's not going to listen to a mommy who doesn't follow through with consequences and allows for "grace" in areas where there shouldn't be grace. Like those definite "no-no's" that have been long in place. Like the bathroom cabinets, the entertainment center "goodies", getting off her bed at naptime or bedtime, throwing food off the highchair, getting into cabinets in the kitchen that aren't "hers", throwing books off the bookshelf, climbing on the coffee table...you know...things like that. Things she knows that aren't acceptable but tests me sometimes anyways and sometimes I let it slide.

Today though, after a talk with the hubs, I have decided that I need to stop being so laxed and step up to the plate of being a true model for my daughter in the things I want her to exhibit as an adult. So full force discipline is back in works for us today and I must say, it's actually going great. I have felt such a sweet love and bond with her. She doesn't get warnings anymore on those things listed above, it's straight to the spanking spoon. So, I approach her with love, tell her what she has just done is a no-no and proceed to tell her she's going to get a spanking, I hold her in whichever position allows for a good connection and I proceed with discipline. Afterwards, I hug her and ask for a kiss and I let her cuddle until she's "okay". Then on with the day she goes. I can tell after these "sessions" that she is much more delightful and happy. It's weird. I guess it's because Mommy stuck to something she KNOWS is supposed to happen and she feels safe and secure knowing that Mommy is being consistent. I know that seems weird but I think that's how it is. Even when hubs and I are both here and one of us discplines her she doesn't gravitate to the parent that didn't do the discplining, she actually wants hugs and cuddles from the one who did the disciplining. That, in a weird way, tells me she understands and that what we're doing is right. Those of you who discipline their kids, with Christian values, probably know what I'm talking about.

I'm not sure why I just went through all that for you all to read, I just felt the "urge". Hope it did somethin for you.

what i've been up to

**Update**
I found the bubble envelopes in my mess of a craft room under a blanket that had AK's fisher price key board on top of that, on top of my printer which is stationed on top of a storage chest under this built in desk thing. Yeah, I guess I stuck them under the blanket to hide them from AK...and apparently myself.

I'm still feeling really sick so please pray for me if you think about it. My fuse is a little short and I'm the only one here to take care of my terrible two toddler. She wants to go play outside but I can't move without having major tummy cramping (not PMS cramping but excruciating sharp pain.....maybe I have food poisoning?). So yeah, I hurt bad. Too bad I can't take sick days.

**Original post**
Ready for a peak of what I've been working on?...during naptime yesterday to be exact.

I'm not sure why, but I really LOVE these AND they look super cute on AK. So if you share love for this style, head on over to Little Bow Head on Etsy and get you some ;).

I'm excited to share with you all that I got my business cards in the mail on Saturday! Isn't that so fun! I was so happy!

Today, when AK is done with her breakfast, I have to book it to Wal-Mart for some bubble envelopes and then straight to the post office to mail off some orders. I have a brand new pack around here somewhere but AK got ahold of them and I haven't seen them since. I literally searched this house high and low and cannot find them. I even looked in the kitchen cabinets, under her bed and laundry hamper among some other places. I like to pride myself of same day shipping, even though my etsy says 3-5 business days, but it definitely hasn't worked that way this go round. I was out of town witnessing the birth of my niece when I got the orders. SOOOO, they've had to wait a bit longer :(.

Apart from ALL that, I woke up with a mega tummy ache and have been taking residence on the pot. Grrr. I wonder if it was the McDonald's I ate for dinner. SPEAKING OF MCDONALD'S! I was nearing the end of my burger when I found a piece of hair in my food! Not just a piece of hair, but one a little longer than an inch and it had like a root bulb on the end...a little white thing...how frickin disgusting is that!! I almost threw up. I cannot stomach that kind of stuff. Maybe that's why I'm sick today. UGH! I can't think about it much more or I'll be sick again.
