Happy Belated Mother's Day
Happy Belated Mother's Day!!!
My hubby had to leave for work at 5 PM on Sunday afternoon so I spent my mother's day with my mom and girls.
My mom came around 10:30 AM and we headed to breakfast. The place we wanted to eat, Kerbey Lane Cafe, was PACKED so was moseyed our way across the parking lot to Cheddar's. We were a bit nervous about eating there because AK likes to spend the whole time hanging out at the fish tank but we were super lucky enough to get a table RIGHT BESIDE IT so put her in the seat facing the fish and she didn't move one time. It was amazing and we enjoyed a mighty peaceful lunch.
Let me back up really quick, when AK woke up that morning I had noticed what looked to be some bug bites on her upper thighs and lower abdomen. I stripped her floor of all toys and vacuumed like crazy.
Okay, back the our day. After lunch I noticed that her "bug bites" were now spreading. Both upper thighs had a full blown rash that was spreading to her arms, knees and a few more on her abdomen. They seriously started out looking like a bug bite-round with a whelp, itchy and RED but as soon as that calmed down it just looked like a circle rash thingy. It was weird.
So, I did what any mother would do, we headed to the park for some playtime with Grandma. Anna-Kate LOVED having her "Cece" there to play with her. It was so cute.

After about 30 minutes of playing I started noticing some new spots. I asked my mom what she thinks we should do and she said we should probably take her to the ER...it was now spreading to her face. SO, I called my mother-in-law and asked her opinion and she said the same thing. So to the ER we went. Of course, I was mega stressed because I knew how she'd react to seeing doctors and being touched. She absolutely HATES it. I mean REALLY HATES IT! We left with the diagnosis of "dermatisis" AND cellulitis (which is an infection of the skin caused by a cut or bug bite--in her case, a mosquito bite) on her foot. She said she had to give her an antibiotic for the cellulitis otherwise it will spread up her leg and cause fever. Nice. So on our way we went with prescription ordered and a dose of benadryl already given.

It was a pretty good and eventful day. I loved hanging out with my Momma and kiddos.
Now, I'll go ahead and tell you the rest of what's going on with her "dermatitis".
So, she woke up yesterday morning with the rash from Sunday faded into a pinky/purpley color and then a new rash that was darker red on top of the old one. This time it had spread all the way down her upper thighs to her knees and had made it's way to the back of her thighs. POOR BABY! She also had a couple of new spots on her sides and THEN a mosquito bite she has on her shin started looking like the one she had on her foot (same leg mind you). So to the pediatrician we went. She diagnosed her with hives and says all kids will get it atleast once at some point in their lives but if she continues to get it then we'll have an allergy test done. She sent us home with a prescription to help with that AND then said she also has cellulitis in her leg where the other mosquito bite is. Talk about luck. Gee wiz. Good thing she was already on something for that before it spread to her shin. So yeah, glad all that is being taken care of.
When we got home my hubs was just waking up for the day. He was off yesterday so he finally got to treat me for Mother's Day. First, that morning (Monday) I woke up to one of my favorite candies, that I enjoyed for breakfast, and a note that said, "One of three gifts". Once he got up I was greeted with a book called "Revitalize Your Spiritual Life" with a note that said, "Two of three gifts". Then I got a new journal with a note that said a lot of things but the one thing that stood out to me most was his commitment to give me a couple of hours a week away from the kids so that I can find myself again. Teehee. Now that's a husband who knows what his wife needs...for the sake of herself, our kids and him. I'm super excited about this and can't wait to start.
So once again, Happy Belated Mother's Day!!!

We came home and hung out with my MIL, BIL and hubby until he had to leave for work--which was only an hour after we got home :(. AK crashed on the couch and slept for about an hour and a half and I snuggled with Isabelle soon after that for my own nap while my mom headed back home.

3 months old

Little Miss Isabelle Grace turned three months old on the first! Wow. It's amazing how fast these little humans grow and learn.
She is a completely happy and laid back baby for the most part. She isn't so laid back when she wants something she's not getting but what baby is.
She talks and talks and talks and I love to just sit and listen to her entertain herself...well...and us.
She loves her big sister. When we're in the car she'll just look at AK and smile so big. It's the cutest thing ever. AK still isn't sure about how to "talk" to Isabelle so she just sits back and laughs at her. Haha.

She's in a size two diaper and has been since she was about 9 or 10 weeks old.
She wears 3-6 months clothing...and some 6 month pieces.
As of May 4th she weighs 14 lbs 11 oz!
She loves to kick her feet and does it really well.

She has taken up the art of sucking her thumb. I've never wanted a thumb sucker because you can't take the thumb away AND my niece is 15 years old and still sucks on her finger so it freaks me out a bit. BUT I guess we'll deal with what comes our way...especially when I'm constantly losing her pacifiers.
With one glance her direction she shoots the biggest, most sweetest grins. I think she knows if she does that the chances of me continuing on with what I was doing is pretty much slim to none.
She loves taking a bath now and that's a relief because I was getting mighty tired of giving her "side of the sink" baths because that is not considered a bath to me and the girl would start getting funky neck smell SO FAST.
The past week or so she has been eating her last "meal" between 9 and 9:30 and sleeps until 5 or 6 am. I think I liked it best when she was eating and going to bed around 10:30 because that's closer to when I go to bed BUT I'll just have to force myself to bed sooner and I think that would be good for everyone.

Anyways, those are just some handful of facts about our growing girl.
One last fact is that we love her SO!
Oh oh, and one more, you see that dress she's wearing in the first two pictures? Yeah, I got that at Target for $2!!! I was so excited. I got another one too-show you that one another time.

good day
Oh my, yesterday was just a BAD day for me. I'm glad it's over and that I'm doing better today.
My husband pointed out to me today that AK watches me. She watches me and she does things she's not supposed to do while she watches me. A lot of times I'm too distracted to even notice and when that happens she's gotten away with whatever she's attempting at the time. Today my back was turned and he was watching her watch me while she flung water from her pool with the shovel from her bucket. We told her that she's not supposed to do it but while my back was turned she was doing it waiting for me to react but of course I wasn't paying any attention but my hubby was sitting right there watching her. So, basically she's been running around me in circles and I only catch it 25% of the time.
Apart from that incident though we have had a fairly great day. I woke her up, got her dressed and headed out the door to meet up with some friends at McDonald's. After McDonald's I braved Target even though I swore to myself yesterday that I'd never take them anywhere again. We made it in and out without incident and I left with two dresses for Isabelle that I snagged for $2!!!, an adorable pair of blue jean shorts for AK for $4 and her bucket and shovel for a $1. I love Target. Then we came home, I blew up the swimming pool, filled it up and let AK play for a bit. After that, get this, we went to Wal-Mart because I needed to get some milk, deli meat, diapers and some food I can toss in the microwave. We got in and out of there with no problem. I came home, unloaded our stuff and left AK to play with Daddy while I made ONE MORE TRIP to another store.
It pays to stay busy it seems.
AND I've decided that AK will no longer be forced, yes-I said forced, to nap anymore because it takes about an hour and a half-two hours to even get her to sleep and by the time she falls asleep it's too late in the day for her to be napping. So, while Isabelle sleeps I'll spend time working on some "school" with AK. I'm hoping this will help her to learn to sit still for a little bit. This should also make bedtime a breeze because she'll actually be ready for bed. I don't know all the details of what our days are going to look like but I'll be working on it.
So, here's to a good evening. Cheers.

extra extra read all about it...
....yeah, read me being brutally honest about my crappy parenting.
And for those of you who tried to watch the video I posted earlier today, well, lets just say my husband messed it up and now I have to upload it again and I really don't feel like it right now. I'll probably try tonight right before I go to bed so it can load while I sleep :-). Check back again tomorrow.
Anyways, on to my parenting woes. I really feel like I need to get it all out there to make myself feel better. Lately I have found it extremely difficult to control my anger and frustration towards my two year old. I'm not beating her or anything but my, oh my, have I found it very hard not to at times. I don't know if it's just that I suck at parenting this age or if we just have some growing to do in our mother/daughter relationship. I find the babies and older kids SO MUCH EASIER. I think AK and I are a lot alike in our personalities so that doesn't exactly help the two of us one bit. Both stubborn, both want to be in control, both are impatient, both want it our way. Wow, humbling to describe myself that way but that's how I am on my worst days. It's like we need to break each other. I need to break her in that she isn't the center of the universe and she needs to break me in being more loving, playful, calm and gentle with her and with people in general. I think because our personality is so unlike the descriptive words in the previous sentence that I find it hard to remember that no matter how disobedient, stubborn and flat out nuts she can be that she still needs her mommy's gentle love. Maybe I'm wrong because it's SO EASY to love on her when we're having good days. I don't know.
I think my husband's new job has greatly intensified whatever is going on in me. On the days he works he has to leave the house by 5:15 pm, be at work by 6 pm, gets off at 6:30 am and doesn't get home until 7 am. He then sleeps until around 3 pm and then turns around and leaves for work shortly after he gets up. On the days he doesn't go in he sleeps until 3 and then he's up with us the rest of the day. Today I was thinking, "WHAT about his schedule make things so hard on me?" and I think I finally figured it out. We never get a full day as a family together and I never get a full days worth of co-parenting. There is no weekend for us. He keeps the same schedule whether he works or not because it's so hard on his body to flip back and forth. It sucks.
I never get to sleep in. I never get to wake up and lay in bed for an extra 30 minutes to gather my thoughts, plans or emotions. I hardly ever get to do anything by myself-I always have a little one in tow. I have more opportunities than anyone to be more inconsistent, more frustrated, more "mean". I spank more. I yell more. I get pushed over the edge more and I hate myself for it.
I'm just realizing, as I type this, that when I'm most angry and frustrated I totally become passive with AK and let her kind of do what she wants until I can calm my nerves because if I don't do that I feel like I'm going to explode. But I wonder if that just makes it worse?! Basically what I need to learn is how to stay in control of her AND MYSELF, continue on with the rules and discipline in a calm manner no matter how bad my blood is boiling and when it's all over with I can lock myself in a room and calm down quietly. Now, I just need to implement it. Hmmm.
I know no matter how terrible my two year old is being she doesn't deserve for me to be so frustrated with her. It's just so dang hard. Sometimes I tell her, "if you would JUST LISTEN to mommy.........", but really, would I be different or would my uncontrolled anger and frustration just be hiding under a rug somewhere until someone trips and rolls themselves up in my rug like a burrito and it's exposed again? Yeah, I don't know and I really don't want to be dealt the answer right now. I just want everything to fix itself.
I want someone to offer to take my kids and force me to go out, ALONE, and treat myself to something nice. I want my husband to tell me he thinks I'm a good mother EVEN THOUGH I have a ton of flaws. I want family time. I want to sleep in. I want an uninterrupted hot shower atleast three times a week. I want my child to just obey me the first time I say something. I want both kids to cooperate at all times when we're in public. I want to remain calm, cool and collected at all times. Period. End of story.
