quite a few things

First, my wonderfully amazing daughter said her first REAL word on Thursday, September 11. She was having a really hard time going potty the other day at "school" and she was screaming and crying. So, being the good and comforting mother that I am :), I went and kidnapped her from her classroom so I could love on her for a minute (my kiddos were napping). We went to the office to see the directors for a quick chat and when we were walking out one of the ladies told AK bye-bye and I'm not joking, my kid waved and said, "buh-buh". It was SO CUTE. She did it TWICE in a row. I almost started crying. I'm a sap. I had just been telling them, with her in my presence, that she hasn't learned to wave yet (which I thought was a developmental delay of some sort) and they were assuring me that babies don't learn to do that until they are about 14-18 months old or something. So, I was beginning to accept the that fact that my kid could careless to communicate with anyone and then that little genius lit up my day!!! It was so exciting. Of course, the wave was directed towards herself (she hasn't figured out how to turn her hand around and do it the "correct" way), but nonetheless it was a wave and she MEANT to do it!!! YAY!

Next, some of our family came to town on Thursday from Victoria. They decided they wouldn't take any chances with hurricane Ike and didn't feel comfortable staying around to see what could happen. I totally understood since they are in tow with a 2 year old and 3 month old. There is no way I'd want to hang around to see what could happen either. It was fun to have them over, even though it was only for one night. They decided on Friday that they would head back home since Ike seemed to be shifting more to the east. Of course, I got some cute pics while they were here.

Baby Kaitlyn is so cute and I loved having a little baby in the house. I hardly heard her make a fuss. She's a good little gal. It was also fun to have Gavin running around. He played fairly well with Anna-Kate and she had fun taking her toys away from him when she felt as though she needed them in her possession (we'll be working on that soon enough). It was fun and now it's over and I have some things I need to get done around the house. What fun.

While the fam was here, we bought a watermelon for the kiddos to eat. Well, I thought I'd be nice and try to get the thing sliced myself while the guys were running an errand and while Erin napped with her kiddos (my gal was also napping). While I was in the middle of that I committed the absolute no-no and tried cutting a piece TOWARDS body parts. Well, the knife slipped somehow and caught my thumb...UNDER THE NAIL. It cut through a piece of my nail and then continued to rip through under it. AAHHHH! It hurt so bad. I know at one point I mentioned preferring labor over this. Cuts to the finger produce constant pain and burning...labor on the other hand gives you some breaks here and there. Hahaha. Sad. Anyways, here are some pictures of my thumb, a day later. It doesn't look as bad as it feels. It sliced from where the nail is cut on the left to almost the other side...all under the nail. EEEEKK.

Lastly, I had to bring Raleigh in this morning because the rain began to fall. We usually leave him outside to ride the weather but I knew today the rain would probably be worse than just regular nasty weather. I hate having him in the house during the day because I don't want him getting his nasty, smelly dog hair everywhere. It would be a different story if he were a 15 lb. dog...or even a 30 lb. dog but our beast is every bit of 100 lbs. and cleaning up after him is torture. Not only do I hate him messing up the floors but I hate leaving him in his crate all day. SOOOO, I decided I'd block him in the kitchen with this big ice chest I've been meaning to return to a friend ;). Anna-Kate LOVES having him there. Hahaha. She stands on the other side of the ice chest and Raleigh licks her and she laughs.

After these bonding moments with him and AK he decided to show me up by jumping clear over the ice chest. I was THEN forced to crate him.

ONE LAST THING, Anna-Kate now has 5 teeth and a 6th one on it's way!!! YAY!
