fuzzi bunz and popsicles

Nice title, eh? It is my life right now. Anna-Kate started having some issues with the big D on Saturday and stopped drinking her fluids like a day or so before that. Literally, she went from drinking 20-25 ounces a day to drinking like 6-8. I was getting really scared about her getting dehydrated because I know that's dangerous period! So, I took her in to see the doctor and she did a stool test to make sure she didn't have any blood in it. I always figured you could see it with your eyes if that was the case but I guess not. The test was negative. Then she checked her mouth and ears to see if there was another reason why she was refusing to drink anything. She found nothing and told me to watch her and if she doesn't have 3-4 wet diapers by the end of the day then take her to the ER to be checked out for dehydration. Soooo, the time passed, she drank nothing and had only one wet diaper which was earlier that morning. I gathered our things and took her to the ER....a little after 6. We FINALLY got to the back around 8. They took a stool sample there and gave her a dissolvable pill for nausea around 9. They said it should take about 5-10 minutes to work and then we'll see if it helps her want to drink anything. TWO hours later, at 11pm, she chugged a whole thing of juice. AFTER the doctor had come in and gave me the option of hooking her to an IV. I chose to opt out of that since they were calling it a "mild" case of dehydration, running on half empty is what he said. He said that he would go ahead and discharge her because the only thing we could do was keep offering her fluids and popsicles. I had tried a popsicle earlier that day and here are the results from that fun:

She totally digged the stick more than the popsicle. It was pretty commical. I'm glad I got pictures of it.

ANYWAYS, we left and came home. I double stuffed her fuzzi bunz (more on that later), offered her some milk in which she drank 5 ounces of!, and put her down at exactly midnight. She was out! By the time we got home she had been up for 8 solid hours-five of which we spent in the ER.

Now, back up to right before we left to go to the ER. Sean's flight instructor's wife had called to offer advice about AK's "condition". She was giving me lots of interesting info when we turned to talk about her diaper rash that I haven't been able to keep under control. Not only that, but it had tripled in severity since she was having D. I told her how I was researching organic DISPOSABLE diapers since I wasn't all into washing poopy diapers and such. She then proceeded to tell me about fuzzi bunz. She brought some over for me to try out and I'm hooked. Seriously. I thought "cloth" diapers (these are microfleece, ooooooh) were totally out of the question because I wasn't sure if I had the stomach for it but really, it's not that different. There are just a couple of more steps to the process but it's not as bad as my mind was telling me it was going to be. Not only that, but since she's been wearing them, not even 24 hours, her diaper rash has almost disappeared. She doesn't squirm or scream anymore when I go to change her. She just lays there all happy because she knows mommy is about to put a nice warm cloth wipe on her with a nice soft cloth diaper. She totally takes it in and makes my life easier while changing her. Praise Jesus. I'll do cloth diapers for her. They are obviously what she needs!
